APC Birmingham Calls for Immediate Release of Comrade JFK, Urges Chief Justice to Accept Apology and Move On

APC Birmingham12 October 2026

The APC Birmingham Chapter is appalled by the continued detention of senior counsel Comrade Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara who has spent three nights in prison since his arrest was ordered by the Chief Justice Komba Kamanda.

We call on the CJ and the Judiciary to accept his apology, expedite his release and ensure we all move on from this unfortunate incident derailing the substantive proceedings before the Supreme Court. We join him, his client Osman Abdal Timbo and the entire APC to apologize once again.

As a senior member of the bar, former Attorney General, Anti-Corruption Commissioner, and prosecutor in several UN-backed tribunals, let it be known that JFK respects the bench, believes that an impartial judiciary is vital in any post-war democracy and is one of the most humble legal minds you can ever come across. Let this chapter be treated as an isolated one and not necessarily a reflection of his distinguished career.

The matter before the court is an important one and it’s important that we try and move past this episode and redirect attention to what’s really needs it right now.

In the interest of Sierra Leone and protecting the Constitution, we again urge the Chief Justice to release Comrade JFK. He needs time to prepare and represent his client and the country well.

We want to thank our MPs, civil society, flagbearer aspirants, former APC Ministers and everyone that is advocating for his release.

We look forward to seeing this.
