President Maada Bio Meets with former President Ernest Bai Koroma
Former President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma’s return and meeting with President Julius Maada Bio mark a new chapter for Sierra Leone, centred on national unity, democratic values and political maturity. As the country looks ahead to 2028, the focus remains on peace, accountability, constitutional governance and putting Sierra Leone first.
On Monday September 7, former President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma met with his successor President Julius Maada Bio at State House, in Freetown. According to President Bio on Facebook, the meeting was a formal welcome following Dr. Koroma’s return.
It marked a new chapter for Sierra Leone - one that does not blur the political lines but puts Sierra Leone first, prioritises national cohesion and creates an atmosphere where past leaders are honoured, and not humiliated.
In 2018, following two terms of tirelessly working for the people of Sierra Leone, then President Koroma conducted elections and handed over power peacefully. Agree with me or not, his actions ensured democracy thrives. No power-thirsty attitude, no violation of the constitutional term limit, no plunging the country into chaos. Just safeguarding confidence and protecting a legacy.
Since then a lot has happened. But we have chosen to just take the lessons and put all of that behind us. Everything that has happened from 2018 to now is history.
Dr. Koroma comes back with a lot of lessons both the APC and Sierra Leone can learn from. It’s left with us to leverage his expertise.
A new chapter is unfolding. Let us make sure common sense prevails. Let this spirit of decency continue. As opposition we will continue to keep the government’s actions in within legal limits, providing adequate checks and balances across all branches of government.
We shall keep the peace as we prepare to take power in a free and fair 2028 elections.
